Data Confidence

One of our top priorities at Shine Commerce is data confidence. We strive to show metrics that customers can trust, and when the data falls outside of our expectations we want to make sure you are aware. To that end, for each shop we will reveal a "Data Confidence Score" to indicate our level of confidence in the metrics available for the shop you are viewing.

How it works

More generally, our Data Confidence Scores are based various criteria we use to evaluate whether a shop's metrics and revenue estimates are within expected ranges. These criteria include, but are not limited to, website traffic, social follower count, and distribution of sales across the product catalog.

We also detect anomalies or outliers in the data that may materialize as sudden spikes in revenue. This may be caused by certain confounding characteristics of a shop such as product bundling, subscriptions, free gifts, or other merchandising tactics that would make it difficult to accurately estimate sales volume. When appropriate, we will bring these numbers back into expected ranges so they do not affect the estimates shown to customers.

Data Confidence Scores

🟢 High Confidence

Shops with High Confidence scores have shop sales, website traffic, social follower count, and distribution of product sales within expected ranges as compared to the overall database of shops.

🟡 Low Confidence

Shine assigns a low confidence when we encounter data signals that fall outside of our expected ranges for similar shops, or we detect characteristics like bundling, subscriptions, free gifts, or other merchandising tactics that may confound sales estimates.

🔘 Not Enough Data

In rare instances, Shine does not have enough data to have high confidence in this shop’s revenue estimates.

Common reasons include newer shops that have a limited dataset or shops with low sales and traffic where we cannot make an assessment on sales.
